​An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardized and independently verified document that shows the environmental impact of a product throughout its lifecycle. Based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), an EPD provides transparent and comparable information on factors such as carbon emissions, energy use, resource consumption, and other environmental impacts.

​​The importance of EPDs is increasing as environmental performance becomes an increasingly important part of construction procurement and regulatory requirements,
extending beyond market-driven business-to-business documentation. In parallel, new European regulations such as the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) are driving the transition towards more structured and digital product information. EPD data is therefore becoming an important part of a broader digital information infrastructure, supporting emerging systems such as Digital Product Passports (DPPs), digital delivery notes (Beast Supply 4.0), and other digital information flows across the construction value chain.

By moving from isolated documents towards interoperable and reusable data, environmental information can be more easily shared, updated, and used for procurement, regulatory compliance, project follow-up, and environmental performance tracking.
